The word dandelion comes from the French work dent-de-lioun, literally “lion’s tooth. Additional folknames include tell-time, piss-a-bed, cankerwort, milk witch, witch’s Gowan, Irish daisy, doon-head-clock, yellow-gowan, monks-head, priest’s-crown, faceclock, swine’s snout, white endive and wild endive.

The sunny flower of the dandelion is one of the first indications spring has arrived. Often seen as a pesky weed in lawns and gardens, the dandelion is a resilient plant with deep roots that can thrive in various environments.
